History

1920
Alfred Galke senior founds a tea-drying and wholesale business in Bad Warmbrunn, Silesia.
1923
Move to the premises of a porcelain factory in Striegau, Silesia. Galke is now the main supplier of oak bark in the whole of Germany.

1950
After being expelled from Silesia, Hedwig and Alfred Galke succeed in starting again in Gittelde. Families gather medicinal plants and deliver them in return for payment.
1963
Alfred Galke junior now takes over the responsibility of running the prospering company. Imports flow in from all over the world.


1968 - 1983
Starting in western Europe, over the years we extend our exports to the whole of Europe. The first overseas contacts are made.
1987
Rolf Galke joins the company as an apprentice, and later looks after the IT department.
1993
Katrin Galke reinforces the company. In 1994 she is joined by Hartmut Galke, who becomes a member of the management in 1999.

1994 - 1999
The already substantial storage capacities are successively extended over a period of five years.

2000
Exports are extended to Japan and South America. This is followed by the construction of new production areas and the installation of a new preparation plant.
2001
We commission our CO2 disinfestation plan, and our employee numbers are increasing.

2002
We increase our dispatch space with a new building. In this way, we optimise our logistics processes and are able to respond more flexibly.

2003
We modernise our packaging area to bring our production in line with good manufacturing practice.
2004
We install new production plant for filtering and mixing technology in line with the strict GMP guidelines.
2005
We build a new logistics area. For the second time after 2002 we optimise our processes by expansion.

2006
We build a new finished products warehouse. We can now store the raw materials and mixes we use particularly frequently in a clearly laid out area, so that we can reach them quickly.
2007
We start selling online. Professional customers can now order via our webshop for the first time.

2010 - 2015
We extend our storage capacities once again with the construction of three new halls.
2017
Our new webshop is launched.

2017
With Sophie Galke we now have the fourth generation in the history of our family in the company.
2018
With the new construction of hall Q, we expand the goods receiving area and enlarge our quarantine warehouse.


2020
Alfred Galke GmbH finally gets a new train crossing. New legal regulations for larger trucks made it urgently necessary.
2021
Installation of a PV system for own use to further improve the environmental balance.
The decision for a new webshop was made. Planned implementation for 2022 / early 2023.
2022
New construction of storage halls N and O connected to hall Q to increase storage capacity.
Design and implementation of a new mill and a large bagging machine to cope with the increased volume flow.
2023
Relaunch of the new webshop, which further increases and simplifies usebility.
Commissioning of a wood chip plant to replace fossil fuels with renewable raw materials (wood).
